BALOO
BASIC ADULT LEADER OUTDOOR ORIENTATIONPrepare to Lead Outdoor Adventures
BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) is required training for Cub Scout leaders who want to take their pack on overnight camping trips. It provides the skills and knowledge needed to plan and conduct safe, fun, and engaging outdoor experiences for Cub Scouts and their families.
This hands-on training covers essential topics including:
- Camping Skills: Tent setup, campsite selection, and basic outdoor cooking
- Safety & First Aid: Scouting America policies, risk management, and emergency procedures
- Outdoor Program Planning: Organizing activities such as hiking, campfire programs, and nature exploration
- Cub Scout Camping Guidelines: Age-appropriate activities and pack camping requirements
BALOO helps prepare leaders to provide safe and successful Cub Scout outdoor adventures. At least one BALOO-trained adult must be present on every Cub Scout pack overnight camping event. Training includes an online prerequisite and an in-person, overnight training experience led by experienced Scouters.
The online prerequisite training is available through the Scouting Learn Center at My.Scouting.org.
