SEA SCOUTS
CHART YOUR OWN COURSE.
Sea Scouts is a year-round maritime program for young women and young men ages 14 through 20 (or age 13 and having completed the eighth grade). Organized into units called Ships, Sea Scouts explore sailing, motorboating, paddling, navigation, water safety, and other aquatic adventures while building friendships, developing leadership skills, and advancing through the program.
Adventure on the Water
From sailing and kayaking to canoeing, paddleboarding, motorboating, racing, and extended cruises, Sea Scouts offers countless ways to experience life on the water. Learn navigation, boating safety, vessel maintenance, and maritime traditions while putting those skills into action through hands-on experiences and adventures with your Ship.
Take the Helm
Sea Scouts is youth-led. Elected youth officers help plan and conduct meetings, activities, outings, and the overall Ship program with guidance from adult leaders. Whether charting a course, organizing an activity, serving as part of a crew, or leading fellow Scouts, members learn to communicate, make decisions, solve problems, and take responsibility through real experience.

Sea Scouting Works!
Sea Scouts helps young people develop confidence, independence, and practical skills through experiences on and around the water. Alongside fellow Scouts and trusted adult leaders, members learn by doing, overcome challenges, and take on greater responsibility. Each experience builds knowledge and character that prepares Sea Scouts to navigate new challenges in Scouting and life.

Adventure & Discovery Await
Sea Scouts turns waterways into opportunities for adventure. Sail, paddle, race, navigate, maintain boats, or take part in weekend and extended cruises. Each experience offers a chance to master new skills, explore maritime traditions, strengthen friendships, and discover what you can accomplish as part of a crew working together on and around the water.

Build Leadership & Seamanship
Sea Scouts combines maritime skills with meaningful opportunities to lead. Through boating, navigation, water safety, service, and youth-led activities, Sea Scouts learn teamwork, communication, responsibility, and sound decision-making. With guidance from adult leaders, they develop the confidence and practical skills to lead both on the water and wherever their course takes them.

Your Adventure Starts at the Water’s Edge
Sea Scouts learn by doing. Depending on their Ship and available waterways, Scouts may:
- Sail, canoe, kayak, paddleboard, and operate motorboats
- Learn navigation, knot tying, boating safety, and vessel maintenance
- Earn advancement and boating-related certifications
- Race against other Sea Scout Ships and sailing organizations
- Participate in weekend outings and extended cruises
- Provide leadership and safety support at aquatic events
- Serve their communities and other Scouting programs
Atlanta Area Council Sea Scouts have also supported activities at Allatoona Aquatics Base, helped prepare Scouts for Florida Sea Base, provided safety-boat support, and participated in service projects.
