TRAINERS DEVELOPMENT

Train the Trainers. Strengthen Scouting.

Trainer's Development is a three-part training pathway designed to help leaders plan, present, and improve training for other Scouters. Courses are taught in person at the Volunteer Service Center and build progressively from foundational teaching skills to advanced training strategy and leadership.

Part 1: The Fundamentals of Training

The Fundamentals of Training is the first part of the Trainer's Development pathway. This course introduces effective teaching techniques and presentation skills for new Scout trainers while also helping experienced Scouters strengthen and refresh their training abilities.

Designed for both youth and adult trainers, the course is especially helpful for those who have trained in other organizations and want to learn Scouting America's training methods and expectations.

Part 2: Trainer's EDGE

Trainer's EDGE is the second part of the Trainer's Development pathway. The course focuses on improving the skills trainers bring to the learning experience through practical instruction, hands-on practice, and effective use of training methods and media.

Whatever your training role, Trainer's EDGE can help you become a more confident and effective instructor. The course is required for Wood Badge and NYLT staff and must be renewed every three years.

Minimum Age: 14

Part 3: Strategic Training Plan Course

The Strategic Training Plan Course, formerly known as the Master Trainer Conference, is designed for key district and council volunteers who help strengthen and improve local training programs.

The course develops servant leadership skills and teaches participants how to analyze, plan, manage, and evaluate training efforts. Rather than prescribing a single plan or document, the course provides a flexible framework that participants can adapt to meet the needs of their district or council.
