SERVICE PROJECTS

Making a Difference Through Service

For more than 100 years, Scouting has helped young people develop character, citizenship, leadership, and a commitment to helping others. The values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law continue to guide Scouts as they grow, develop confidence, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Through service projects, Scouts put these values into action, strengthening their neighborhoods, supporting local organizations, and making a lasting difference in the communities they serve.

Service Opportunities Across the Atlanta Area Council

Each year, the Atlanta Area Council sponsors service initiatives that bring Scouts, families, and volunteers together to support important community needs.

Scouting for Food

Scouting for Food provides an opportunity for Scouts and units to help neighbors experiencing food insecurity. By collecting food donations and supporting local food assistance efforts, Scouts demonstrate the importance of kindness, generosity, and community service.

Recycle for Good

Recycle for Good encourages Scouts and families to make a positive environmental impact through recycling. The program helps young people develop responsible habits while learning how everyday actions can benefit their communities and the environment.

Units participating in council-sponsored service initiatives are encouraged to submit their service reports to the Atlanta Area Council. The original council program also offered special recognition patches for participating units that submitted reports.

Record Your Service Hours

Every hour of service represents a meaningful contribution to the community. Recording these hours helps units recognize the efforts of their Scouts, track accomplishments, and demonstrate the positive impact of Scouting.

After completing a service project, unit leaders should record the activity and service hours using Scouting America's current advancement and activity reporting tools.

Be sure to share your service accomplishments with your families, chartered organization, schools, and community. Your unit's efforts may inspire others to get involved and make a difference.

Make Service Part of Your Annual Program

Service is an important part of the Scouting experience and can be incorporated into unit activities throughout the year. Whether your Scouts are collecting food, supporting environmental efforts, assisting community organizations, or organizing their own projects, every act of service helps strengthen the communities we share.

Encourage your Scouts to identify needs, develop a plan, take action, and reflect on the difference their efforts have made.
