Scouting America Membership Standards

Prejudice, intolerance, and unlawful discrimination are unacceptable within Scouting America.
RESOURCES
Who Can Join?
Scouting welcomes eligible youth, regardless of race, ethnic background, or orientation, who are willing to accept Scouting's values and meet the requirements of membership.
Scouting works to ensure that youth and adult members have opportunities to join local units that align with their beliefs and the Scouting experience they seek.
Youth may not be removed from Scouting programs on the basis of their orientation. Scouting teaches members to be helpful, friendly, courteous, and kind, and to respect those whose beliefs may differ from their own.
Who Can Volunteer?
Adult leaders must agree to uphold the Scout Oath, fulfill the responsibilities of their positions, and perform their duties in accordance with Scouting America's rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
Chartered organizations select their adult leaders in accordance with Scouting America's membership policies. This approach allows families to choose local Scouting units that best meet their needs and reflects the role chartered organizations play in supporting Scouting programs.
By focusing on shared goals, Scouting volunteers help create meaningful opportunities for young people and strengthen the communities they serve.
