WESTSIDE INITIATIVE
Building Brighter Futures on Atlanta's Westside
Every young person deserves the opportunity to discover their potential. Through the Westside Initiative, the Atlanta Area Council brings Scouting's leadership, character-building, and outdoor experiences to young people in Atlanta's historic Westside neighborhoods.
Stronger youth. Stronger families. Stronger communities.
A Community Rich in History and Potential
Atlanta's Westside is home to neighborhoods with deep cultural roots, a proud history, and generations of families who have helped shape our city. From English Avenue and Vine City to Grove Park, Washington Park, and surrounding communities, the Westside represents an important part of Atlanta's identity.
While these neighborhoods have experienced periods of disinvestment and limited access to youth development opportunities, their strength lies in the people, families, and organizations committed to building a brighter future.
The Atlanta Area Council's Westside Initiative supports that commitment by connecting more young people with positive role models, meaningful experiences, and opportunities to grow through Scouting.
Removing Barriers. Creating Opportunity.
Through Scoutreach, the Westside Initiative helps make Scouting accessible to families who may face financial, transportation, or scheduling challenges. Dedicated leadership, essential resources, and community partnerships help ensure more young people can participate, belong, and thrive.
Dedicated Leadership
Trained Program Specialists provide consistent mentorship and engaging Scouting experiences, helping young people develop confidence, character, and leadership skills.
Essential Scouting Resources
Uniforms, handbooks, and program supplies help remove financial barriers so young people have the tools they need to participate.
Outdoor Adventures
Camperships, transportation, and additional support connect youth with camping, outdoor education, and unforgettable Scouting adventures.
Community Partnerships
Collaboration with schools, churches, civic organizations, and neighborhood partners helps expand access and create sustainable Scouting opportunities.
Building Character. Inspiring Leadership.
Scouting provides more than activities and adventures. It creates a supportive environment where young people develop character, learn responsibility, build friendships, and discover what they can accomplish.
Through teamwork, community service, outdoor experiences, and guidance from positive adult role models, Scouts gain practical life skills that prepare them to make a difference in their families, schools, and neighborhoods.
By investing in young people today, the Westside Initiative helps strengthen the communities they will lead tomorrow.
