OCTOBER
Fall Recruiting & Program Kickoff
Fall recruiting and program kickoff are in full swing. Focus this month on welcoming new families, strengthening your unit calendar, and preparing for upcoming fall activities.
This Month’s Priorities
Review Membership & Unit Renewal Status
Review upcoming membership expiration dates and make sure families understand the individual renewal process. Unit leaders should also identify any registration or renewal issues that need attention before year-end.
Recognize an Outstanding Volunteer
Take time to recognize the volunteers who make Scouting possible. Consider deserving leaders for Council recognition and submit nominations for volunteers whose service has made an exceptional impact.
Strengthen Your Cub Scout Adventures
Help den leaders deliver fun, engaging Cub Scout Adventures by connecting them with activity plans, advancement resources, videos, and other tools that make meetings easier to prepare and lead.
Schedule Scout Sunday or Scout Sabbath
Begin planning how your unit will recognize Scout Sunday or Scout Sabbath in February. Coordinate with your chartered organization or faith community now so your Scouts can participate in a meaningful observance.
Plan Arrow of Light-to-Scouts BSA Transition
Packs and troops should begin coordinating transition activities that give Arrow of Light Scouts and their families opportunities to visit troops, meet leaders, and experience the Scouts BSA program.
Plan Fall Recruitment
Review your fall recruiting plan, confirm recruiting events, and prepare materials to welcome new families.

Review youth leadership roles and upcoming training opportunities. Help youth leaders understand their responsibilities and give them the coaching and support they need to lead the program.

Close out the year by recognizing Scouts and volunteers for their achievements, service, leadership, and contributions. A little recognition helps families and leaders see the impact they made throughout the year.
Prepare for Scout Sunday & Scout Sabbath
Continue planning your unit’s February observance with your chartered organization or faith community. Confirm the date, Scout participation, leadership roles, and any service or recognition activities.
Review Your Unit Calendar for the New Year
