SCOUTS BSA ADVANCEMENT
Scouts BSA Advancement
Scouting’s advancement program remains structured yet flexible. Scouting provides a series of surmountable obstacles and the steps to overcome them through the rank advancement method. Each Scout plans his or her advancement and progresses as challenges are met.
Rank Advancement
After earning the Scout rank, Scouts advance through six ranks: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle Scout.
Each rank builds skills, leadership, service, and confidence through progressively greater challenges, along with a Scoutmaster conference and board of review.
Merit Badges
Scouting offers more than 130 merit badges that give Scouts opportunities to explore new interests and develop valuable skills. Topics range from outdoor adventures such as camping to science and technology fields such as robotics. Through hands-on experiences, Scouts can discover new interests, build confidence, and explore potential hobbies and careers.
Merit Badge Opportunities
Council Merit Badge Days give Scouts opportunities to explore new interests and complete requirements for both Eagle-required and elective merit badges with experienced counselors.
Programs may feature topics such as Eagle-required badges, conservation and nature, STEM, uncommon merit badges, and more.
Religious Awards
Scouting America recognizes religious emblem programs developed by a wide range of faith traditions and religious organizations. These programs give Scouts opportunities to strengthen their faith, deepen their understanding of their beliefs, and receive recognition for their accomplishments Learn More
