AUGUST
Back to Scouting & Fall Recruiting
The new school year brings new opportunities to grow your unit. Prepare for fall recruiting, welcome returning families, and make sure your calendar and leaders are ready for the months ahead.
This Month’s Priorities
Recruit Through Adventure and Friendship
Invite prospective Venturers to an upcoming activity where they can experience the crew firsthand. Encourage current members to invite friends and give interested youth an easy way to stay connected.
Turn Summer Experiences Into Recruiting Stories
Use summer camp, high adventure, service, and outdoor experiences to show prospective Scouts what your troop offers. Encourage Scouts to share their experiences and invite friends to upcoming activities.
Welcome Families Back to the Pack
Reconnect with returning families and create a welcoming first experience for new ones. Share your calendar, explain what is coming up, and help every family understand how to get involved.
Launch Your Cub Scout Recruiting Campaign
Put your recruiting plan into action through schools, community outreach, recruiting events, and personal invitations. Make it easy for families to discover your pack, ask questions, and join.
Review Summer Advancement Progress
Review advancement completed during summer camps, outings, and other activities. Make sure achievements are recorded and recognized, and help Scouts identify their next advancement goals for the fall.
Make a Great First Impression
Make sure leaders are ready to welcome new Scouts and parents at meetings and recruiting events. Assign someone to greet families, answer questions, explain next steps, and follow up after their first visit.

Looking Ahead

Keep Advancement Moving This Fall
Review each Scout’s advancement progress after the summer and identify opportunities through fall meetings, outings, and activities. Help Scouts set goals and keep their achievements moving forward.
Make Sure Cub Scout Leaders Are Ready for Fall
Use the summer to orient and train new pack and den leaders. Help volunteers understand their roles and connect them with the resources they will need when regular meetings resume.
Help New Families Feel at Home
Follow up with families who recently joined and help them understand meetings, activities, uniforms, advancement, and upcoming events. A clear and welcoming introduction helps new families become active members of the unit.
Turn New Interest Into a Strong Scouting Experience
Deliver engaging meetings, outings, and activities that give new and returning Scouts reasons to stay involved. A strong early fall program helps build enthusiasm, participation, and lasting connections with families.
Keep the Momentum Going With Fall Recruiting
